Top tips to protect against the credit crunch, according to the FSB and ASC alliance.

Advisers and firms are being encouraged to follow steps to cope with the credit crisis and protect their business in the economic slowdown.

The Federation of Small Businesses has formed an alliance with ASC Finance for Business to help small companies beat the credit crunch.

Steps to combat the crunch include the promotion of financial flexibility, focusing on unique selling points, planning ahead, managing costs and seeking professional advice.

John Wright, national chairman of FSB, said: "The sustainability of the 4.5m business enterprises in the UK is more important than ever in an uncertain economy, but small businesses do not need to panic."

Henry Edjelbaum, managing director for ASC Finance, added: "Having successfully worked through three financial recessions, this credit crunch is nothing new to us. We have the contacts with leading banks and the focus to help small businesses raise the right finance for their business."
